I have some concerns about some of these that I planted perhaps 2 years ago. Although they have grown about 18", they seem to be turning very brown and thinning.

I'm wondering if it's simply because they are quite enclosed between the shed and wall and might not be greeting enough water? Or are the lower branches just dying of as they are sheltered but thet will continue to grow higher up?

Write appreciate any advice!

Cheers for that... I've not seen any evidence of the black fruiting bodies but everything else sounds familiar. Wouldn't have thought my hedge was particularly dense either.

So much for plant and pretty much forget! Really don't have the time or inclination to tend after plants... hard enough looking after kids!

Still, I did invest time and money so best see what I can do!

Cheers for the help!
