Its crazy how easy it is to think like a domesticated citizen of the UK that my our existence is the status quo of the world, but that thought just gets topled every time i hear stories like this!!
My brother in law works at the high end of security at keeping the oil fields and workers in basara safe and in full production, asking him just two weeks ago if hes busy, he as reported that an additional amount of security personell, and security equipment is being procurred.. for obvious reasons, apparently because the price of oil is dropping on a global scale, shell and the Basara oil company want to capture, compress ship and sell the natural gas that is burnt of as flaregas as a biproduct of oil extraction... sounds ok, good idea... how much gas we talking??? the oil wells burn off 700 million cubic ft of gas to the atmosphere every day and have done so for over a decade...700million Cubic ft per day... my brother in law said that that amounts to the annual consumption of the uk that they just burn off every day... I have tried converting to Mwhours to see if he is accurate but failed the maths... but aint it just out of proportion when we talk about saving energy resourses by turning our thermometers down etc etc etc....

That's exactly why I can't be bothered with the 'Save the planet' brigade. I would be more than happy to save fuel, buy a smaller car and use ridiculous light bulbs but only if we were all in it together (as Jelly boy would say). Our street lamps go off at midnight to save energy. fair enough. But, I wonder if the lights go off outside Buck House or Downing Street?

I had no idea of the scale of that waste of natural gas. I can't believe that it has only just crossed their minds to keep it, rather than burning it off, and then sell it on.

What crossed the government's mind first was taxing the rest of us mugs.

You're right, of course.
But if they'd looked a bit further than the ends of their noses (which politicians don't seem able to do) it might have occurred to them that if they'd kept the gas instead of burning it off they could have sold it to us and collected taxes on that as well!

Well it's a good job that ErP will be enforced on us later this month other wise we'd all be in trouble

Been to a couple of seminars on Erp but always fall asleep and start snoring.... So I am still non the wiser

I can see the point of conserving resources and protecting nature, but the climate change bandwagon reads as being pure scam. Strange thing is that the hippies all seem to support it, despite it having been started by a few uber-rich politicos like Al Gore and Maggie Thatcher, not to forget sc -er, I mean cowboys like Michael Mann. Usually they would be dead against anything put about by such guys, saying that it was just a capitalist scam to line their pockets. Well folks, it is and you've taken the bait, hook line and sinker.

An interesting stat is that something like 100 times as much money is spent on 'renewables' every year, as is spent on finding real replacements for oil. To the extent that this wastage will will hit us hard when the oil does run out and all we have left is what energy we can get from wind and solar, which is not nearly enough to keep our society running, economies or no.

I think that the most polite way I can respond to that is to suggest that hippies, like a lot of young left-wing put-the-world-to-rights brigade, are still 'developing their minds'.
To be realistic some never will, perhaps because of the detrimental effect of the drugs they like to consume.

I'll remain ********ed and disinterested for now and leave the elite to rub each others egotistical penis's over it. :)

The physics is prettiest simple. CO2 is a very effective greenhouse has, and a tiny proportion acts like a thermal blanket. We are increasing the CO2 significantly, so warming will occur. The unknowns are what feedback loops exist. For example, more CO2 might cause faster tree growth, absorbing some CO2. But the warming might cause perma frost to melt, releasing methane which is a very very potent greenhouse gas. So the details is complex, but warming is occurring, it is basic physics.
