I've have noticed a company that operates in the same field that I do. It is advertising a training course that is both recommended and certificated by the "Solar Standards Association" a newly registered business which is also owned by the training provider. In my opinion it's unethical and possibly illegal, but is it?.

If the 'Solar Standards Association is owned by the Training Provider they can recommend them.
Not very ethical I suppose and in my opinion highly suspicious.

Is it illegal to recommend yourself?
If they provide training that is both useful and safe, then issue a certificate that the person attending said course has assimilated the information and has completed said course satisfactorily, what is wrong with that?
They could employ a impartial assessor, to verify the course content.

If only, they charge £175.00p for a one day classroom course in a hotel.
Impartial   PMSL

Are you saying there is no such thing as an impartial assessor?

Wotan

I was saying they may have employed a impartial assessor at some time, to legaly accredit the course content.

Need to shout either. :x :x

Doesn't instill confidence though if they are the only ones recommending their own company does it?

But every venture has to start somewhere, if they are good their reputation will grow, if they are bad then they will fall by the wayside.

The owner of the two companies I mentioned is also the founder of a successful renewables supply company that has it's own well know forum mentioned here before. So why set out to deceive people?.
