Ivy on trees...and elsewhere.

I have just moved into a house which has three acres of woodland. The previous owners let nature take its course. Many of the trees are covered in ivy. I am concerned that the ivy is harmful to the trees (mostly oak). Any advice on whether or not I should cut the ivy back?

Seperately, my house is also covered by ivy in places. I am slowly cutting it back and pulling it down but the 'grippers' are left on the wall. Any way to blast these off? Any machines available that might help?

Thanks

JB

Use SBK, mixed with Paraffin.
