I've always fancied an old-shape XJ, and thought the petrol V8 in the late alloy body was the one to have. But I heard someone claim the engine was troublesome, and the oil-burner was better.

I've never liked the smell of diesels. What do we know abnout the petrol engine?

early engines had the nikasil liner issue which should have been sorted by jaguar under warranty, i have also heard about issues with the timing chain guides etc but i dont think was a warranty job
worth checking on the internet which years were affected by these problems

Pity they didn't use the Daimler V8 engines from the late 50s!
