I've been reading about the thermostat that comes on these hot air systems.

It uses a variable resistance with the numbers on the stat.

Here is my thinking to update / give more control to the system.

Move the Thermostat into the a cold cupboard out of the way and leave it on full load so it thinks it needs to be on constantly.

Buy a 24 volt switching 7 day 4 event programmer and use it to switch the system on and off via a relay?

This also frees up the inbuilt timer for the hot water boiler.

Any views?

thanks

That is not a good idea, 007.

If you have modairflow/System ET, it is not really a variable resistance, it is a thermistor and a VR.

It is capable of regulating the warm air heating down to a stability of +-0.1C, by modulating the fan and pulsing the burner. Putting this in a cupboard is madness. You will massively increase your energy consumption and decrease your comfort. Hardly a forward step.

You could fit a modern timer and use a relay on the switching, not temperature circuit. If you use a relay, the voltage rating of the programmer is of course, an irrelevence.
