Bought some Johnstones eggshell paint colour matched to my freshly painted walls (Dulux matt - just gave them the colour name). Painted a bit of scrap mdf one half with Dulux the other with Johnstones and they're completely different, you can see the colour difference just looking at the paint in the tin.

Is this expected? Do they usually give refunds if you've opened the tin? I spent over £100 and for something advertised as colour matching I expect it to be near perfect colour matching!

I say this as a decorator... colour matching is always far from perfect.

My local decorators' merchant normally supplies Leyland Trade to match Farrow and Ball colours. I warn the customer than when the two paints are side by side, they will look different.

In the past I have had paint scanned, the Dulux store said it was a 97% match. I binned the tin.

I do not think you will get a discount. I hope you do.

Ultimately, your Johnstones was 25% (cheaper)?

How different, like looks like another colour altogether different or you can tell the difference in certain lights different? My Johnstones mix doesn't have half the undertones as the Dulux does.

Annoying it was only £17 cheaper, serves me right for being a skin flint
