I've just had some vinyl fitted to a kitchen/dining room - but it required a join due to roll size.

I'd always assumed there was a way of joining two vinyl layers on domestic vinyl, in a similar way to the heat-bonded professional stuff (which I guess is solid rather than a printed layer and foam back)

The chap has glued both edges down to the floor, but I notice I can get a fingernail inbetween the gap.

What is the best way to avoid getting water in this, or potentially getting the surface scratched off at the join? I'd heard about something called a "cold weld" but unsure if this is anything different to just a bit of glue...

Thanks, Gordon

cold weld is the correct method, it works by melting the two top layers together. (it does not fill gaps tho, well it can but leaves 3-4mm line) It is not a standard to use this on a domestic job but is still good practice.
