I am planning to convert a large landing into an extra bedroom. Basically, aside from things needed to comply with building regs (new window etc), this will consist simply of a stud partition between two side walls (with a door casing incorporated, of course). I am intending to construct this myself and may well tape/joint the boards as it's a small, cheap & cheerful job and not particularly visible.
My question is this:
How are the gaps between the edges of the new boards and the existing walls filled? The existing walls are painted, skimmed plasterboard and were done only a few weeks ago so I'd like to leave them undisturbed if at all possible. I know this displays a lack of foresight but the re-plastering was part of a bigger job and the bedroom conversion is a recent afterthought!
If I decided to get a guy in to skim the new boards, how would he fill the gap?
I'm on a bit of a learning curve here but would like to have a crack at any part of the job that I legally can. I don't have any problem throwing in the towel and calling in the pros when I get out of my depth but if you don't have a go you never learn, so any advice would be gratefully received.
Cheers,
Neil
