I have a problem where a joist hanger was not installed correctly years ago and as such there is now a prominent drop at one end of the joist that needs repairing.

My solution is:

1. Acrow Prop underneath it and remove the old hanger which is secured into an exisiting masonary wall (block). However it is not fully inserted in the mortar line so has dropped out.

2. Using one of the below joist hangers, use M10 shield anchor bolts to secure the new hanger to the masonary and then drop the joist into it. Joist is 7x2.

3. Make good the ceiling beneath and floor above.

Is the joist hanger and fixing method suitable for this joist hanger repair? It is a joist in the spare bedroom.

Many thanks,

Paul

The hanger itself looks fine and better than those bendy tin things.

You need to be careful about the fixing to the wall, though. Is it lightweight block? If so, expanding bolts might be a bit unforgiving to the block - consider resin-fixed bolts instead.

If it is a dense concrete block, is it hollow? There are special fixing for this.

Its a solid block and of good quality so I don't expect it to crack with the pressure applied to it from the fixing and/or weight of the joist but thanks for the heads up on the resin fixing... I will look into that. Guessing these are just as strong but don't weaken the block?

I would resin fix.
As said far more forgiving and strong.

A m8 just fitted some steels and the SE had them also anchor with plates with resin fixings.
M12 rod and 13mm hole insert glass and spin in, job done.

Cheers for that. Looking like resin is the way forward! Looks fairly simple to install as well so think I will go down that route and fix the hanger to the rods when cured.
