Hi
I need to fix a 9" x 2" to a wall to mount joist hangers on to take floor joists and was wondering what is the best way of fixing it in place. I was going to use 12mm through bolts at 12" spacing , but my mate thinks these are not good enough. Is he right and if so what should i use?
Thanks everyone

Can't see much wrong with the fixings you describe - maybe a larger gauge would be better. What will be at the other end of the span? Providing your joists are a tight fit, there's no reason for your main beam to come out or shear the bolts.

If you want to be dead sure, use threaded rods inserted into the wall with resin and use washers and nuts to tighten it up.

They are going to be fixed onto an existing wall plate which the ceiling joists are currently fixed on.
Will try to find some 16mm through bolts instead of 12mm, if not I will take your advice and use resin and studding
Thanks again
