Hi

I'm in the process of renovating my house (built 1968) and I want to strengthen the floor joists to make the place feel a little more solid and to help reduce creaking sounds. As part of that I wanted to re-enforce the floor joists.

I'm going to ask the contractor to add in some noggins to give a bit more strength:

...but I also wondered about whether to install some new joists too. I've heard about flinch beams, and whilst I know they can be built relatively easily (subject to load calculations etc) I was wondering whether anyone knew of any places who will calculate, manufacture and deliver them... a one-stop shop, if you will... Am London based.

Thanks

You don't fully explain what the problem is; is it just creaking, or is there any excessive bounce/deflection?
Stopping creaking may just be a case of securing the floor finish (t&g boarding? chipboard?). If it's more serious than
that, there are ways of strengthening the floor as a whole, though unlikely that flitched beams would be necessary.
