Hi All

A customer has requested an outside up/down light be installed to the front of a building to replace an old existing bulkhead. The light is currently positioned approx 4 metres high and the supply cable is 1.5mm T&E clipped direct.

They do not want brickwork to be drilled to allow cable access to feed behind the light. Is there a junction box available that is strong enough to support a light that weighs 0.75kg, in order to make the connections for the light in the junction box which would allow the T&E to be terminated into the box by a suitable gland?

Many thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Need some clarification
Is this new light to be in the same place as the old one (4 metres up)?
If not, how do you plan to run the cable from the existing to the new position?

As an aside. T&E cable is not suitable for use outdoors. Also you'll never get a weathertight gland to work with T&E.

Sometimes the mortar joint can be chipped away to access the back of an outside light.

Perhaps you could use a round terminal end conduit box with gasket IF the holes line up, and fit a CTS gland.

Why is it such a big deal to chip away at the brickwork? Cutting into the pointing wouldn't cause any irrepairable damage.

Considering there's surface run cable on show, the customer seems to be over-fussy.
