I am planning to put a new light and one-way switch in my loft. Could I use a four terminal JB with all the cables wired through that, or a three terminal JB and the new switch wire coming from the ceiling rose of the new light?

Kind Regards.

TTC,

Does that mean not using a JB and simply running a spur from an existing ceiling rose??

Kind Regards

That is one of the (many) ways that you can do it.

Feed from existing ceiling rose > Switch > light

or

Feed from existing ceiling rose > light > switch

etc etc

Whatever suits you.

If I was doing it, I would take the following technique.

Feed from existing ceiling rose > Switch > light

Its super simple, live from one cable to the common on the switch, connector block neutral and earth (separately) in the switch box (or earth lug in the box if a metal box), a new cable to the the light, Live in L1, join neutral and earth to cable 1, fit your light, job done.
