My K2 Compact stopped working after a couple of minutes. It is 4 year old. I have been reading different posts and I believe it is not a capacitor. It also smells like burnt. When I opened it I found that 2 plates were missing. So I believe that is the reason why I only get a buzzing noise but the pump never starts anymore.

I have made sure there is no airlock, and the water flow is enough.

Should I look for a spare motor second or go for a brand new unit? I believe the other K2 models are using the same motor.

That motor definitely needs replacing, what you call plates are segments of the commutator which also has other damage & repair is not a diy job. It's always better to use new parts as there is no way of knowing if used ones are ok or not & how long they may last
