Thinking of getting a Kayak for the summer. Been wanting to do it for years.

Would like one that I can do by myself and with one of my daughters.

Anyone?

The trouble with a kayak is it’s the same forwards or backwards

I have an explorer k2 with my friend and we use it a lot in summer.
Good entry level kayak, easy to setup and impossible to tip over.
Get a battery operated pump with car lighter backup if you don't want to break your back inflating it.
We paid £160 at costco.

Find your local canoe club and join them, they will give you lots of advice and help train you, you do need some training esp in the recovery methods for if you capsize.

What facilities for kayaking do you have in your area? look into that as otherwise it means you may have to travel far each time you use it.

AIUI:
A short kayak will be best for tricks, riding the rapids etc.
A longer narrower one is better for distance.

We do have a local pursuit centre . I was going to contact them with regards to teaching my girls.

Is it tough and easy to handle?

Can you use as a couple and single?

Thanks Johnny.. did you get any training?
No, the movement comes natural.
Watch a couple of YouTube videos if you need to, but it's all easy stuff.
I also go on paddle board, no training and never fell from it.
Done rowing for 12 years in my youth, maybe that being in water in a thin unstable structure helped.

I've done it on plenty if occasions. But a bit of training would be a bad thing and I'm more thinking of my young girls.

Young people find it a lot easier than us old folks.
My grandkids go on paddle boards and my kayak without any training and even the little 8 year old doesn't have any problem.
Just get them a floating jacket to keep your mind at rest.
I've seen the Mistral in Lidl for £19.99.

We will all have jackets. I'm not a good swimmer but my girls are both strong swimmers.

I'll take a look
