Key operated switched fused spur unit.

When they can't switch them off without a key they will just pop the fuse out.
As soon as they do that, they have broken the strict T&C's of their tenancy and they will be off my books. I have an ever-growing list of prospective tenants with guarantors, so they know the consequences if they tamper with any part of the building without my expressed permission. All a tenant is allowed to do where the electrics are concerned, is to plug their appliances in a socket and change a lamp if needed; anything else including fuses needs my permission after an inspection by me or my agent (a son-in-law) to assess as to why a fuse has operated.

I do wish they would stop using the word "Spur" inappropriately.
A spur is a type of part of a circuit layout.
A Switched (or Unswitched) Fused Connection unit is FCU or SFCU if you like, it is not a "Spur".
Ooh, it makes so so angry that I could crush a grape or rip a tissue paper in half!
Now now, think of your blood pressure and heart ;)

I had to fit a supply for a new boiler so I thought I would run a spur from the nearby ring.
The supply required isolation and fusing down so a spur was needed.
I fitted the spur to the ring and ran the spur to the boiler.
Although the spur is 2.5mm² T&E I thought I may as well put a 3A fuse in the spur.
For some reason people think a 13A fuse in the spur protecting a spur to a boiler is not acceptable.
Of course, were the spur supplying just one socket then a spur would not be required but more than one socket on the spur then a spur is required.

It is strange that sockets, flex outlet plates, double-pole switches etc. and these

are not called unfused spurs.

That many people do something is no recommendation nor justification to do the same.

I will not mention Ring Mains then!
