How would the owner get back in regardless of your wife being part of the equation? Sorry, that is a clumsy way of saying that by leaving the key in the door, the homeowner has prevented themselves from being able to access that door from outside.
I didn't know you could leave the key in and lock the door by closing it from the outside. If you get back in then swop it for a double type whereby you can leave the key inside but still get in with a key from outside.
Me neither. In my neighbour's case, I think you have to do something more than just leave the key in the lock and close the door but not much more. It was a new-ish door (and lock) and their SiL (not familiar with it) managed to lock them out very easily.
This type of lock is so 'secure' that to open it from inside you have to have a key.
The mrs used the key her friend gave her to enter the property and water the plants inside the house. She then locked the door with the key when she was inside, she then went out the front to water the plants in the front garden and pulled the door closed, unfortunately, this type of door locks itself when pulled shut! My own house will allow you to leave a key in the lock and you can still open it from the other side, this one won't!
