Hi all,

1st post here on this useful site! :) ive been busy reading old posts etc, very helpful.

Ok heres the background and question:-

I'm just installing a new kitchen and appliances. Ive got to wire in a single oven, hob and extractor.

At the moment i have a cooker switch, which leads to a connection box behind the cooker and to a thick wire for the old cooker.

Would it be ok to buy a length of suitable cable, connect to the connection box and feed this to the hob as well? So the cooker and the hob are coming from the same connection??? (I've not got the specs with me at the mo).

Ive no idea where to wire the extractor chimney in, any ideas??

Sorry if they are silly questions, but this is all fairly new to me.

Cheers for any help whatsoever

Paul

The cooker and hob together will probably be OK if there was a cooker there before, BUT you must check the rating of the units, and the type of cable feeding the old point, and its route (through any insulation for example de-rates it markedly -see the cable size selector metioned in 'for reference'). This assumes and electric hob plus oven rating less than the cable maximum safe current.
The extractor, being almost a portable appplience either needs to plug in somewhere, or have a switch fuse (probably 3 or 5A) permanently connected to the ring main or similar.

regards M.

** if its a gas hob the electric ignition is very low power, and would be better treated like the extractor.
