Kitchen fit and wall tiling

I am replacing an existing kitchen. It has dot and dabbed boards which are tiled in places and have units hanging in other parts.
As part of my rip-out, would it be advisable to tear down the boards, remove the dabs and fit new boards?

I thought that this will give me a nice new surface to tile/skim/fit cupboards to, rather than making good what will be left over once I have knocked the tiles and cupboards off.

Is this an advisable approach?

Up to you. If you do go back to bare brick you might want to look at some insulation (as required by building regs).
If you're pulling tiles off the existing boards they'll be wrecked if the tiling was adequately done.

That's what I thought. Is this a common approach? I was worried that I may be suggesting something that is absurd!

Is there a particular technique/tool for removing the boards and adhesive dabs?

Ah, was assuming old solid walls. If the cavity is insulated you'll not gain a lot from additional internal insulation but still worth checking if it's an outside wall.
Bolster for removing tiles (might need a hammer, might not), wrecking bar for plasterboard, more hammer and chisel (SDS is good) for removing the dots- board adhesive sets very hard.
