Hi all,

I'll be redoing the flooring in my kitchen soon and I have some gaps in the existing floorboards where they have been cut/removed to allow for access to services presumably around the perimeter of the room. The previous kitchen installers just nailed 6mm ply over them, which I've removed.

I'm going to cover these gaps with 18mm ply on top of the existing floorboards with the board edge protruding over and covering the void if that makes sense.

Now as said the existing cabinetry was just installed directly over all of this with some feet sat on the flimsy 6mm ply so I might be overthinking this, but I was going to secure a batten against the wall, over the top of the board edge, and then use angle brackets just to prevent any movement and sagging as the board edge nearest the wall obviously won't be supported. Does this sound like a reasonable plan, or any other suggestions? The photo shows one small section but most of the floorboards against the wall in the photo have been cut back, or damaged.

The 18mm ply will be all hidden under cabinets and will pretty much be the same level as the finished flooring in the room.

BTW the flexi waste in the photo is only a temporary measure so that won't be staying...

OP,
You could do as you propose - or even do nothing given that the short (6"?) gap will be covered with 18mm ply.
If you think its necessary the base unit leg can be moved or replaced with a supported packing piece?

so, that hole will be covered with 18mm plywood, and will be under cabinets so never walked upon - I would do nothing..
i would coat the edge near the wall in bitumen, protect it from any dampness

Thanks all, seems like I might be overthinking the structural integrity side of things. I was going to use expanding foam around the edges to try and stop any draughts.
