what is best to use to paint the walls in the kitchen?
it will be over 2 coats of watered down emulsion onto the plaster..

Mom said they do a special paint for kitchens and bathrooms, and Dad says to just use vinyl silk..?

as Mom did all the decorating at home, I'm more inclined to do it her way..

also any colour recomendations for a kitchen? nothing red, green or blue..

Wilkos do a flat mat kitchen paint that's really good and really tough.

Some of theses so called kitchen paints can be a bit Gimmicky and don't work as well as they say. Normal vinyl matt, satin or silk finish is more than adequate for the job.

I agree with Robbie..So-called 'kitchen paints' are just another way of getting you to part with your money ..Use a good quality trade matt vinyl, silk or satin for the same effect ;)

I agree with Robbie and LJW61

If I were you I'd try the Wilko's stuff before saying that. It's just so flat, so smooth and so tough. Costs about the same too.
