Hello,

I am about to start painting my hall/stairs/landing. I have been told I should paint my walls white first so that the paint dries the right colour.

I know that if I'm using matt emulsion I should use matt white underneath and if I'm using silk emulsion I should use silk white underneath. The colour that I have chosen is only available in Crown's Kitchen and Bathroom range. Does this mean I have to use Kitchen and Bathroom white for the base coat or can I use standard matt?

Thanks,
Heather

I would say it depends what colour your going to-from.

Im not a decorator by trade but Ive almost always going fron one colour direct to another unless its been a very light colour onto a dark base, or vice versa.

i would have thought that if you got crown trade it could be mixed up in any finish from any colour. Kitchen and bathroom is eggshell, not my taste for an HSL, harder wearing though. Never bought into 'whiting' a wall out, if it doesn't cover in two it will in three anyway so save yourself the effort.
