kitchen sink

hi folks hope someone can help me out here. basically the problem is that my kitchen sink stopper is not giving a very good seal . i fill the sink up with water and 5 mins later the sink is empty ive checked the plug thats fine. i removed the sink stopper by the centre screw and and the underside of the stopper is wet and the rubber ring on the drain under sink was wet too ive dryed them off refitted both the parts and still the water is seeping thru the sink stopper.

anyone got ideas how i can solve this. im stumped
