I have recently moved into a newish bungalow and want to fit a small filter tap to the kitchen sink. The sink is black but I'm not familiar with the material it is made of, it is certainly not metal but appears very tough.

Anyone familiar with this type of sink :?: I'm a bit reluctant to put a drill through it until I know what it is I'm hoping it might be a very tough plastic.

Souds like it could be an astracast sink, which is basically made of a very hard resin.

The first one I ever did, I burned out two hole saws cutting into it.

You will need a grit edged holesaw, if it is that tough.

Thanks Graham, soz I'm a bit late replying  the hole I'm cutting is about half inch in diameter (showing my age now) so probs won't get a hole cutter that size, I thought I might try drilling with a small drill bit and working up to ½" :?:

You might try a Starrett holesaw with water to cool it - used them on galvy tanks but not astracast
