Knocking out a brick chimley ?

I just want to know if this is a diyer job or a specialist job. If I knock out the chimney downstairs and then right upstairs into the loft is this safe. Do you have to put any supports in to support the chimney on the roof, as if that was the case I would leave the job to someone more experienced.

Lintel, gallows brackets or best of all remove the stack.
