Hi

I'm doing some work on my second (top) floor flat. Currently there is a supporting wall running the length of the living room to form a hallway. I'm planning on widening the living room doorway into an arch and adding a second arch at the other end, using steel reinforced concrete lintels...

Making the arches as assumed that to completely lose the wall, would need to put a steel beam in its place. Is this right and if so, how prohbitive is the cost of such things?

Cheers

are you legally free to modify major structural elements in your flat. does your leasehold permit sutch development?

any openings above 1800mm require building regs and structural calculations.

pcc builders lintels are ok up to 1100mm or so dependant on the loads.

Thanks

According to the freeholder info, I should be ok, but obviously will notify Buildings Control etc... Arches will probably be double the width of a doorway... will be finalising it all when get into the place!
