So my little boy wants to get into Hornby. He's bought some track and we just got a transformer and controller from eBay. But I don't know what to do and I think something is missing. I'll attach a picture so if anyone knows what to do next that would be handy. Cheers.

Scratching the brain cell and going back 60 years, the DC output from the transformer needs to be connected to the rails of the track.
Forward and reverse is dealt with at the transformer - the black sliding switch with the red background, in fact.
John :)

There should be a connector that slides into a gap under the rails that transmits power to the rails.

Don’t switch on with those output wires touching!
You could experiment by connecting the wires to the track with crocodile clips once you get some track laid out.

Track connector clip needed. You clip or solder the wires into one of these. Buy online. Have fun! Need to set my old Hornby up in my loft for my kids

Did the seller make any claims about the connector? Or have photos not showing the bare ends?

Maybe he didn't con you - maybe (and this is no fault of yours whatsoever) you just didn't know what you were buying, and ended up, unfortunately, buying something not 100% complete.

Doesn't look as though the situation is irretrievable though.

Think I've been jipped.

Again - this is not a criticism, but hopefully a useful bit of knowledge..

That word is actually derogatory and offensive, - it's an alternative spelling of 'gyp', which comes from 'gypsy' and refers to their reputation of being swindlers. It ought to fall into disuse, just like "Think I've been jewed" has.

I used Triang which was two rail, Hornby was three rail, seem to remember trix made universal track which could be used on either, and latter the two firms combined. The old Triang had a special rail to connect with. And seem to remember the old Hornby was the same.

But there were also different gauges, OH I seem to remember was mine, but sister had TT, and she also ran off with my clockwork set which was much larger and was also Hornby.

I have grown a bit older not and play with 2'6" set, 8 miles long, can't drive the engines, not sure I want to, it's hard work. 50 minutes end to end, but also some 16 gauge, at the moment inaccessible due to new roof being fitted, but should have two sets running my next year.

Too expensive to own my own, one guy has a model Garratt the wheels alone cost him £1000, don't think my wife would allow me to spend that. Next door is setting out 16 gauge in his garden, but really part of his job, he writes for the magazines, so he needs first-hand experience. But not seen an engine run yet.

But here in Wales we have lots of little trains.
