I think that the sign is supposed to allay any "death ray" fears amongst (Daily Mail reading) travellers. I did not raise it with anybody at the airport for fear of subjecting myself to an "enhanced" search.
Your lucky they did not arrest you, i think they frown upon taking photos in the departure bit.

It would be interesting to write to "them", and ask them what they mean.
Only because Express readers don't go to airports because then they would be taken to places full of foreigners, and Sun readers can't actually find their way to them.
Am I missing something obvious? Why is the thread title 'lambda'?
