laminate stairs ? good or bad idea, i have read a few comments online some say they can be quite dangerous, slippy, even though they look good, any advice would be good before i go ahead..

With young kids and pets I'd say no myself.
Safe when walking not when running.
Quickstep do great nosings system

thanks, (y) am leaning toward no now, no kids and dog to big to get up stairs but if you have to watch your step, i mean that can't be a good thing:confused:

Laminate stairs I think are a good idea, although perhaps a lot more popular in Europe than in the UK. I think my main concern would be the noise factor but there are many stair nosing options that take away any slip risk (in fact these are much safer than the typical carpet set-up we tend to favour in the UK). If starting from scratch I would have laminate with a discreet stair nosing & decent (sound absorbing) underlay over carpet any day - would love to hear further views on this.

One of the problems with laminating stairs, is that it's really got to be glued down, and you'll need to build up the nosing otherwise the laminate will break over time as you tread on the unsupported nose. You could use 2 part filler to build up the nosing, and that would make the job feasible. It won't be as quiet as a carpeted stair, but shouldn't be much noiser than a laminate floor. But I'm not sure if the quadrant to hide the expansion joints would look good on the stairs, and that's why I'd advise against it.

With the number of people we have that ask us to install carpet as runners on previously fitted oak staircases, I am inclined to agree that many people find all wood/laminate stairs slippery, cold and noisy. There's quite alot of process involved in squaring everything off to enable the fitting too.
