i am in process of having kitchen redone by builders and new kitchen units put in, I know this may seem like a waste of a pack of laminate but would it be a good idea to completely laminate the floor then put the units of top it?, Any ideas?

Besides being a waste in packs and money it's also for possible future moist problems better when the laminated or any W-E flooring is not installed wall to wall in kitchens, utility areas.
If you have the bad luck to have a leak (your appliances that is, guys!) you can imagine the trouble you will have removing the floor (i.e. removing all the units again if worst comes to worst).
