I have a rather large stair well in my new flat which has rather battered looking wallpaper. Rather than rewallpaper, I was wondering if it is possible to remove the wallpaper and plaster the stud walls underneath? Photos enclosed:

If more specific information is required, please let me know.

Get all the paper off first and see what it's like, it may not need a skim, you might get away with a good wash down, biot of easifill for any cracks or dings, and then paint.

Will give it a go. If worse comes to worse and the wall underneath isn't in a condition that it can be solely painted, is skimming a feasible option or should I try something else?

If it's no good once you have all the paper off, then yes a skim would be the way to go.

Well finally managed to get some time to strip off all the wallpaper and Ive found a mixture of thin plaster and also hardboard. Ive taken some photos to try and show whats underneath.

Can anyone advise if a plasterer would be able to plaster onto these surfaces or will i need to look to do something else?

Cheers![/img]
