Hey all.

A house I was working intoday, on old open vented system on a Mexico Super,

Your standard red domestic sizes Grundfoss pump.

The rads upstrairs were not heating so i checked the F+E tank and it was full, Switched off the pump and eventually managed to get the air out the radiators.

Now on turning it all back on there wasnt any heat comming throught upstairs still. the systems got dirty water and microbore pipe,

Its not got a blockage going upstairs but I think its really struggling to move the heat about, tryed balancing it with very little success.

Are there better pumps or something i could do to move the heat about better, theres 28-30 radiators in the house with about 10-15 of them upstairs.

thnkas for any advice cheers

Lol my answer was think about an upgrade but the owner wasnt present so dont know whats going to be the next step.

Its a ridiculous system, Iv not been in this job long but Iv not seen one close to this bad before.

The system has been working until now, has it not? If there is no ciculation now, then why not? Regardless of the number of rads, one should be able to 'rig' the installation to heat rads on shorter runs and thereafter 'diagnose' maloperation.

If the water is dirty then that is likely to be the clue.

Microbore is so much more easily blocked than 15 m.

BUT I once found the solution to one of these problems! It was a hidden and failed zone valve!

Its a good pointer if all the rads work on one floor and none on another floor!

They aren't sized by colour, they have numbers on. 15/60....?
Its not got a blockage ,
nothing stopping the water then??
but I think its really struggling to move the heat about
but its the water which contains the heat.
eventually managed to get the air out the radiators
so what's stopping it?

Close downstars rads. If upstairs ones are all better then maybe the pump's knackered, but it should still bleed ok.

Certainly check for a valve, but then "blockage" seems to be an inevitable diagnosis. Look for an air lock, but then treat for sludge.
