This is a question that comes up on here seemingly a fair amount judging by google, but I have quite an extreme case and wanted to check it was still ok.
I'm currently decorating a bedroom, and due to a piece of fitted furniture there's a certain height I'd like the skirting board to be. Unfortunately we can't find a suitable style which is tall enough so have bought as close as we can and are planning on gluing it with a gap under. This gap will be about 13mm to the floorboards.
Now the underlay we're getting for the new carpet is 12mm, and the carpet itself, although fairly thin, is obviously a few more. Will this be ok, or should we put some extra wooden strips underneath it, or just deal with the less than perfect aesthetic and lower it a bit? If the last option what's the maximum gap that is acceptable?
Thanks for any help.
