Hi guys. By law what qualifications or documents does somebody need to work on a gas appliance I.e. A boiler? Do they need to be corgi registered and have a cscs card?

I think they now have to be gassafe registered. (not that , that makes them any safer)

I think you need a level 3 Diploma in domestic natural gas, C&G 6014.
You don't need a cscs card unless you are doing site work then there will be a trade cscs card that you will need to apply for and take the numpty test.

So what does my land lords engineer need to work on our boiler as I'm concerned he is a micky mouse cowboy

He must be gassafe since any work has to have a certificate of completion, which will include the qualifications of the person carrying out the task. You should read the fine print of your contract and ask for a copy of the certificate of works - it this is withheld for no good reason them you are entitled to withold rent.

He's a very foolish landlord if he doesn't play certain things by the book, and an annual gas safety check by a gassafe person is one of those things he must not dick around with.

So what's up with the boiler? Why do you think he's got a cowboy involved (it could be Agile if it's in London  - it's an in-joke, op).

Ask the mods to move this to plumbing (click alert mods and type it on there)

As an aside, I cannot remember the last time that I was asked for my GasSafe card to prove that I was qualified to work on their gas.... Far too many folk simply assume that the grumpy geezer with a tool bag is qualified to mess with their gas.... People get wise, If the guy isn't registered and something goes wrong, then you have no chance of tracking the guy down and making him pay

ASK FOR THEIR CARD!

Good point corgigrough. As luck would have it, our contracts are with BG (London) and homeserve (Manchester), both of whom are legitimate
