Good point corgigrough. As luck would have it, our contracts are with BG (London) and homeserve (Manchester), both of whom are legitimate

We have a both main and LPG appliances in London, and nobody on here was willing to take on the contract for annual service and landlord certificate (and insurance for parts plus 24 hour call out). As for homeserve, our boiler in Manchester was fitted as new about 18 months ago and vaillant seem to have an agrrement with them
