Hi,
This is my first post here - hope I've not posted in the wrong place! My dormer roof leaked and bought down the ceiling in the attic. I've replaced all boards and also angled the roof so water will drain away and not settle. The roof was covered in felt but the main house roof is lead. I would like to lay lead on the dormer in keeping with the rest of the house roof. I've had a plumber come round and price the job up. The roof is 3x2.4 mtrs and the cheeks are about 1mtre and the widest part. He has quoted £2000 plus VAT and not including materials. Says its a weeks work for two. He also needs scaffolding and said this would cost about £1.5k. I called a scaffolder and he said £750 for 4-weeks. Am I being taken for a ride by the plumber?

I have done quite a bit of DIY and the job looks fairly simple but I have never done lead work and am not sure what skills are needed. I am more than happy to pay for the work but would like to know what sort of price this could be done for.

Thanks in advance

Adam

HI

get few quotes because one agreed many roofs are not done right and will create all sort of problems.and try to get someone who has reputation or is known as doing a good job even if you have to pay few hundred more.good luck

Thanks....thanks also for the link. I've printed off the Calder guide to good leadwork to see if this can be done by my good self  ....although I will get a few quotes to compare. The roof is only 3 x 2.4 so should not pose too much of a problem. Am aware that this stuff needs to breath

Thanks again
