At the end of my garden I have a raised square platform which is the height of 2 blocks - i.e. about 45 - 50 cm's. It is supported at the back and to the left by a high wall and at the front and to the right there is small wall 2 blocks high.
It is currently full of topsoil.
I would like to build a patio on it and I am wondering if the following plan would work in order to create a sound foundation.
- remove half of the soil so that there are about 20 cm's from the surface of the soil to the top of the platform.
- whack the soil down.
- form a base with old breeze blocks ( I have quite a lot as I have just knocked down a wall).
- fill the spaces between the blocks with gravel and add more gravel until the blocks are covered.
- fill the rest of the platform with sand and level off.
- lay patio.
I will leave a small space between the back wall and the patio for drainage and to allow me to grow some ivy.
