I'm extending an existing patio in heavy clay soil. I've dug out the new area of 2x3m but between this and the existing patio is a trench of gravel (pea shingle), about 200mm below the patio level.
The gravel fill itself is 2m long (the short length of the new dig out), 400mm wide and about 400mm deep.
I want to put a geotextile down over the new dig out, 100mm compacted type 1, sand blind then mortar.
Can the subbase simply go over the gravel?
