Hi all,

I’ve a small patio area at the end of the garden which was reinforced concrete slabs, most of which had broken away and we’re generally untidy.

After removing them I’m left with a pretty solid base and other than a bench for myself and the Mrs and the occasional bottle of wine, the patio isn’t going to need to support much weight.

Therefore I’m wondering if I’ll need to put any hardcore down. I’d appreciate any thoughts.

Also there seems to be a fair bit of conflicting information out there in terms of laying slabs. Some state I should be sharp sand then patches of concrete, some are a dry mix of sand and cement, some are just sharp sand and some suggest Slablayer from wickes.

Bearing in mind it’s use, I’d also appreciate any suggestions on what to use as a top layer, bearing in mind it’s minimal use. I’ll just be using 450x450 slabs if that helps at all?

Many thanks!
