Wondering if anyone has any experience or advice...we would like to lay Amtico vinyl strips/tiles over existing Amtico that was already here when we moved in. We have sucesfully laid Amtico before in a smaller room so we have a bit of experience in the actual finishing of it but that was over a plywood base so a bit different.

The 'official' advice is to rip up the whole existing Amtico floor, put down a new screed, sand it etc, but I can't help thinking that all this work has already been done for the current Amtico layer! It sounds like a huge amount of mess and cost. It's a good flat surface on the current Amtico so is there any specific reason why a new layer of Amtico couldn't just be laid on top?

All the bevels of the Amtico will show through the new Amtico
The amtico won’t get a proper bond to old Amtico
The glue needs to soak into the screed or plywood which is can’t going over existing LVT.

But if you want to do it you should feather finish screed the Amtico then glue to that.
