I'm laying the flooring rough side up (hope thats right!) in the kitchen ready for a new vinyl floor to go in. Do I need to lay the hardwood under the washing machine/dishwasher/fridge etc?
Many thanks

Dont know what side up.
You need to lay it under appliances & you need the flooring under them, otherwise you may find it difficilt should you need to remove them.

John - you should be OK rough side up. Take the hardboard (I assume it's hardboard as your post says hardwood) under appliances then lay the vinyl under the appliances as well.

If you're hoping to stick the vinyl down, or it's self-adhesive tiles, I would have thought smooth side up would be the way. That's how I always do it - oh and prime it too!

As for whether you need to put it under your appliances, that depends if they are going to be free-standing on the floor, or if you are using integrated appliances (behind the plinth), in which case it's up to you. Maybe you can't face dragging them out to lay it under them, so don't bother. But if they're just going to stand freely, it would look most odd not to continue the flooring under them.
