Laying limestone hearth

Hi all

I will be soon attempting to lay a limestone hearth in my living room

Should it be laid on a 4/1 mortar mix?
Also do I need to seal the tile before laying? If so what is a good product to seal the hearth with anyways once it is laid?

4:1 is good. no need to seal underneath , maybe just wet them underneath before fixing. i used clear japlac stuff on mine.
do you have a concrete base to lay them on?
