Laying self adhesive PVC Tiles over tiled floor

hi folks

I am about to redecorate the kitchen and a number of the
ceramic floor tiles are damaged and cannot be replaced.
My thoughts are to remove damaged tiles and fill in with self leveling
compound, lay hardboard on top of the tiles should I use a membrane
under the hardboard and then stick the tiles on to the hardboard.
the area involved is not large as the kitchen is only 8ft by 6Ft
any comments or advise would be welcomed

I would bish bosh up the tiles THEN lay the self leveling compound....use that substrate
