In the coming days I'll be laying riven slabs 600x600 on a dry sub base mix of 6:1 sharp sand and cement

Should i butt each slab up? or have a mortar joint? Is one method better than the other? Or is it down to personal preference?

If going with a mortar joint, what is the recommended spacing?

Cheers

I use 8mm

doubt you could ever get them levelled up if they are touching !

Would you recommend a 6:1 or 10:1 mix?

Also the 'dry' mix of sharp sand and cement is any water to be added whatsoever?

I've got plenty of hardcore/rubble so will be laying that down then wacker plate it followed by the weed membrane and then lay the bed of sharp sand/cement for the slabs

5:1 sharp sand/cement.
Wouldn't be putting a membrane down.
A properly consolidated sub base with a wet mix of mortar fully bedded with a minimum of 5mm joint to accommodate the grout.
