i'm about to lay solid oak floor (18mm thick) onto a concrete screeded floor.
Do i have to use 18mm marine ply or can i use cheaper shuttering ply?

I plan to pin the floor opposed to glue and leave it floating.

Thanks.

18mm ply is not thick enough when you plan to nail a wood floor on a concrete floor. You need at least 50mm nails and these will hit the concrete and not secure the floor.
Either install you wood floor floating on combi-underlayment (includes DPM), glue it down fully with flexible adhesive or install battens 50 x 75mm and secret nail.
