hi:)

can i install a stone resin tray directly onto a plywood floor in a 1st floor bathroom? the whole floor has been renewed and strengthened with noggins. i have plenty of space below to sink the low profile waste etc and a favourable route to the soil pipe.

as i'm also installing pir insulation throughout the top floor inbetween timbers and also overboarding it would be a bonus if i didn't have to raise the tray on risers etc. also if i did have it raised i would have a timber upstand then tile on top, by sinking it into the floor i can access by lifitng a section of flooring on the landing (so basically easier for me if there were any issues).

laying the tray on the floor now it isn't far off level, is there any compound/screed i could spread over the tray footprint then lay the tray and level off from there?

many thanks for your time

You can happily put the tray on the plywood, and use a 4:1 slightly wettish cement mix to level it out with. But how thick is the plywood. Is the PIR going in the loft, or inbetween the ground and first floor.

As a minimum 3/4inch marine ply, better 1inch marine ply. Get that level and solidly fixed and the rest will be simple. A good wood yard will sell you a piece the size you need if the plumbing supplier can't or won't.

thanks for the replies.

it is 18mm ply with noggins roughly every 400mm (depending on wiring).

when you say cement mix, would a premoxed mortar mix be suitable?

the top bathroom is in a rear dormer so the pir is going in the celing and exterior walls.
