We need to lay a water pipe from a borehole to a stone built, earth floored barn; I get that the pipe needs to be at least 750mm deep and not more than 1350mm but what do we do to get it through/under barn wall? Bit nervous of undermining barn walls!

Depends how your barn was made. My one made from Limestone in Wensleydale has absolutely no foundations, just some random stones here and there at a level lower the 6" below the surface of the ground.
Its only a water pipe, dig right up to the barn wall on the outside and see how deep and even the foundations are. Select a suitable spot and bang a crowbar/rod/metal pipe through a gap or the soil, for it to be inside the wall. Dig down in the inside to locate said lump of metal.

Thanks for that Frank - logical really! I'll give it a go. Jane

PS Sounds like the barns are built in similar way.
