We have a commercial property which has lead pipework for HWS and CWS and heating. We're replacing this with copper pipework, but what's the law regarding the lead pipes. Do i have to remove them from the building (they're in the walls, so will require large amount of redecs afterwards!) or can i leave them in situ?

Any thoughts gratefully received!!

In the UK lead pipe can continue to be used for water supplies.

It is however good practice to replace it by copper or plastic.

Obviously no new lead pipes can be fitted and no soldering of lead water pipes is permitted. Any connections have to be made with compression couplings.

The old unused pipework can be left in the walls and under floors etc.

Make sure that when lead pipes are replaced the electrical earthing is not compromised.
