I have connected the waste outlet of the bath to the trap using ptfe tape but the connection still leaks when water is released. Any help appreciated.

The trap is leaking?

Change it or make sure the washers are fitted properly. Make sure it is lined up with the waste pipe properly and not at an angle. :D

Thanks Bahco. The leak is from where the trap is screwed on to the bath outlet.

I will check points mentioned.

Take the PTFE tape off - the trap seals to the waste with a rubber seal which needs to be fully tight to the underside of the waste. The PTFE may be stopping you from screwing the trap fully home. You only need to use PTFE where the threads form the seal - not in this case

Thanks all for you help. Fitted new washer and removed PTFE tape and problem solved.
